Rockdale School District 84 is seeking a dedicated community leader to fill a vacancy on the Board of Education. The Board is initiating the process to appoint a new member to serve until the next regular school board election. The individual selected will serve on the Board from the date of appointment to the next regular school board election.
The Selection Process
To ensure a fair and transparent selection, the Board will follow a structured process in accordance with Illinois state law:
Call for Candidates: The Board is now accepting applications from qualified residents of District 84.
Application Review: The Board will review all submitted résumés and letters of interest to verify that candidates meet the legal residency and eligibility requirements.
Candidate Interviews: Prospective candidates may be invited to participate in personal interviews with the Board. These interviews are typically conducted in a closed-session meeting.
Official Appointment: The final selection will be made via a public vote during a Board of Education meeting. The Board aims to seat the new member within 60 days of the vacancy.

To be eligible for appointment, a candidate must meet the following legal requirements:
Be a citizen of the United States.
Be at least 18 years of age.
Be a registered voter.
Be a resident of the State of Illinois and of Rockdale School District 84 for at least one year immediately preceding the appointment.
Not be a child sex offender as defined in State law.
Not hold an incompatible public office or certain types of conflicting employment.
