Hello Rockdale Ram Nation! This is Mr. Peterson, your Building Principal, and on behalf of Dr. Merritt, our new Rockdale Superintendent, we will be making our way into the community this week, stopping at each of our learners’ homes as we meet and welcome them back to the new 2022-23 school year that begins on Wednesday, August 17th. We will start our “tour” late morning tomorrow, Tuesday, August 2nd and continue through the week until we have made a stop at each home. We will provide each learner with a welcome flier and small gift. If your child is not home when we arrive, we will leave the flier and gift at the front door. We look forward to meeting all of you! Good afternoon Rockdale Ram Nation! On behalf of Ms. Hall, from the Joliet YMCA, please find the following information regarding the After School Kid Zone being held at Rockdale School for the 2022-23 School Year. This program is a YMCA run & staffed program and is not the responsibility of Rockdale School. Any matters associated with the After School YMCA Kid Zone program should be directed to them. We are grateful this year to be able to provide the YMCA with a space. The YMCA will be offering the Kid Zone After School Enrichment Program on-site at Rockdale for the 2022-2023 school year! The Y's After School program runs on all full days of school upon dismissal until 6pm. It provides a resource-rich environment and introduces children to lessons and activities that build on what they learn during the regular school day. Your child(ren) will participate in activities that focus on: character development, arts and humanities, homework/literacy support, STEM, health/wellness and fitness, and social emotional learning. They will also receive a healthy snack. The Y does accept DHS Funds and has Y Scholarships available for those who may qualify. Reminder for 5th thru 8th Grade Rockdale Rams!! Our Lady Rams Softball team are entering their 2nd week of practice this Monday, August 1st at 8 am at CB Diamond. If you are still interested in joining the team, please make sure the steps below are completed. We would love to have you. Our Rockdale Rams Baseball team begins their first practice this Monday, August 1st at 9:30 am at CB Diamond. As a reminder, current Sports physical (one within the past 395 days) and finalized registration must be completed prior to our student-athletes can practice as the first games are fast approaching. The main school office opens at 8 am on Monday, August 1st for any last minute registration questions. If you only have to turn in the sports physical, it can be brought to CB Diamond at the time of practice and will be reviewed and/or processed. We are excited for the upcoming Ram Baseball and Softball seasons! Are you ready?!? All those who are interested in participating on our athletic teams will need to complete the athletic forms, which are linked on our Rockdale website at https://www.rockdale.will.k12.il.us/o/rsd/page/forms. If you are not able to print the forms, we have hard copies in our main office. These forms, along with registration for the new school year, must be completed in order to participate in our athletic program. Softball practice begins this coming Monday, July 25. Baseball practice begins Monday, August 1. We are looking forward to welcoming our athletes back to the new season! #RamPride

A BIG shoutout to our very own Mrs. Blenck, Rockdale 1st Grade Teacher, for her participation in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run benefiting the Special Olympics. Mrs. Blenck has participated in this ceremonious event for several consecutive years as money is raised and awareness gained for the athletes who participate in Special Olympics Illinois. This was a collaborative effort between the Special Olympics and our very own Rockdale Police Department as the torch made its way down Meadow Avenue and past the school. There had been a year or two hiatus due to the pandemic. In case you missed it, around 10:30 am yesterday, Monday, June 13th, the torch was run through our town of Rockdale and Mrs. Blenck, Sergeant Baikie, Officer Griffing, and Roxy were an integral part of this special event as the Flame of Hope travels 1500 miles through thousands of Illinois communities, just like Rockdale, as it makes its way to the final resting place at the Illinois Special Olympic Summer Games in Normal. Way to go Mrs. Blenck, Officer Griffing, Sergeant Baikie!! #ALL IN as #oneRockdalefamily UN GRAN agradecimiento a nuestra propia Sra. A special Rockdale shoutout to the Home Depot Foundation, Ms. Monica Martin, Store Manager at the Yorkville Home Depot, and the other Home Depot workers, for their tremendous efforts in transforming the west side of the building courtyard into a butterfly and flower sanctuary last Friday, May 13th. You ROCK!! A big thank you to Mr. Olson for applying for the $2500 Home Depot Foundation grant. Thank you to our students and staff who also assisted with the project as well.
